Shrinking the product development cycle on the R25 250cc motorcycle, Yamaha will launch the bike in India next year. The Japanese manufacturer revealed the India bound motorcycle at the recently concluded 2014 Auto Expo after unveiling it at the Tokyo Motor Show in November last year.
The Yamaha R25 will be powered by a 249cc, liquid-cooled, parallel twin-cylinder engine that will be good for around 35 BHP of power. The bike uses a tubular frame and will be tuned for optimum performance and handling attributes. Yamaha is currently working on the bike making changes to make it production ready. The company is making the R25 a priority in order to launch the product in the market in 2015. Expect the aggressive styling to be carried forward on the production spec version as well, albeit with some changes.
Bringing the Yamaha R25 earlier than expected surely shows the company’s plans for the country. The R25 will be the flagship offering in Yamaha India’s product portfolio. The company plans to launch the updated FZ and the YZF-R15 Version 3 later this year, after which the R25 will break cover in the Indian market.
There is no doubt that the quarter-litre segment is only going grow bigger and better. The Yamaha R25 will be competing against the Kawasaki Ninja 300, the upcoming Hero HX250R, Honda CBR250R, KTM Duke RC 390, Suzuki Inazuma and the likes in the segment. Customers are surely going to be spoilt for choice in this segment. Expect the R25 to be priced around Rs. 3 lakhs when launched in the country.
