Yamaha To Launch 125cc Automatic Scooter

Yamaha is all set to build up its scooter line-up in the Indian market. The two-wheeler manufacturer is planning to introduce a new automatic scooter, which will join the recently launched Yamaha Ray. The upcoming automatic scooter will boast of upmarket styling and will be targeted at the young men. Yamaha had launched the Ray automatic scooter last year, targeting the female customers offering telescopic suspension, compact leg shield, bright and dynamic headlight, stylish tail light, longer rear fender and a powerful yet frugal 113cc engine.

The Yamaha Ray is powered by a single cylinder 113cc air-cooled, 2-valve, SOHC engine producing a maximum power output of 7.1 PS at 7500 RPM and a peak torque figure of 8.1 Nm at 5000 RPM. Yamaha claims a fuel efficiency figure of 62.1 km/l on the Ray and offers six colors with a price tag of Rs. 46,000/- (ex-showroom Delhi). We expect the upcoming automatic scooter to boast sharp design elements and a premium styling providing strong performance. The new scooter will be priced slightly above the Yamaha Ray.

In order to take on the rivals, Yamaha’s new offering will feature a four-stroke, single-cylinder and air-cooled 125cc engine coupled with an automatic transmission and equipped with an electric starter. This year looks promising for scooters in the two-wheeler market, as most of the manufacturers are updating and adding new models featuring efficient and powerful engines to their line-up. Recently Honda updated the Aviator, Activa and Dio with their new HET (Honda Eco Technology) that maintains the power of the engine and provides a better fuel economy. Yamaha is expected to launch the new scooter around mid-2013.
