Yamaha India has commenced dealer training for a 250cc engine and also showcased the test bike to dealers with the launch scheduled in April 2015, soon after the 2015 R1 is launched.

While the 2015 R1 has been confirmed for launch in March 2015, enthusiasts looking for something more affordable won’t have to wait too long as the R25 will be arriving on Indian shores by April next year. Multiple service personnels from the manufacturer inform us that Yamaha has already commenced dealer training for the R25 across the country.
The training is said to be done for a 250cc engine that equates to the Yamaha R25 and not the R3, which was also speculated for launch in the Indian market. Over the next four months, the Japanese manufacturer will be conducting its service training once every month and the test bike has been showcased to dealers as well. Yamaha is likely to bring the ABS equipped R25 that will soon go on sale in Indonesia, while no changes to the mechanicals or power output are expected on the India spec model.
Powering the Yamaha R25 is a 249cc parallel-twin cylinder DOHC, 8-valve engine that belts out 36 PS at 12,000 RPM and 22.6 Nm of torque at 10,000 RPM, paired to a 6-speed transmission. The bike comes with a high compression ratio of 11.6:1 and uses DiASil cylinders for better heat dissipation. Suspension duties are performed by 41 mm telescopic front forks and a monocross set-up at the rear, while stopping power comes from disc brakes at the front and rear.
A high awaited model in the country, the Yamaha R25 is touted to be the last word in performance in the quarter-litre space competing against the very popular KTM RC 390. The company will be bringing the bike via the CKD route that is expected to keep the prices on the higher end. While details on the pricing are not out yet, the R25 can be expected to carry a price tag of around Rs. 2.85 lakhs (ex-showroom) with ABS and will be undercutting its major competition, the Kawasaki Ninja 300 by a significant margin.
