Yamaha voluntary recall to resolve brake lever function related issue
Yamaha has recently announced a voluntary recall affecting approximately 3,00,000 units of its Ray ZR 125 Fi Hybrid and Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid scooters. The recall, effective immediately, is targeted at resolving an issue related to the brake lever function in select units of these 125cc scooters. The company has assured customers that replacement parts will be provided free of charge to those affected.
To determine eligibility for the recall, owners of the affected Yamaha scooters are advised to access the Service section of the India Yamaha Motor website. From there, they can navigate to the ‘SC 125 Voluntary Recall’ section and enter their Chassis No. details to ascertain the necessary steps. Alternatively, affected individuals can visit their nearest Yamaha service centre or contact India Yamaha Motor through the toll-free number – 1800-420-1600 – for further assistance.
This recall marks the largest such action taken by India Yamaha Motor to date, involving a substantial number of units. Since the implementation of SIAM’s Code of Voluntary Recall in July 2012, the company has recalled a cumulative total of 63,977 units. Previous recalls by the company include 56,082 Cygnus Ray scooters in July 2013, 138 R1 motorcycles in March 2014, and 7,757 FZ150 bikes in December 2019. With this latest recall, Yamaha’s total recalled units in India have now reached 3,63,977.
From an industry standpoint, this recall represents the second largest by an Indian two-wheeler OEM, following a significant recall by Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India in May 2021, involving 6,15,666 units. Models affected in the Honda recall included the Activa, CB Shine, CB 300R, H’ness CB350, X-Blade and Hornet.
Recalls are a standard procedure in the automotive industry, aimed at ensuring the safety and satisfaction of consumers. Manufacturers proactively address potential issues to maintain the trust and confidence of their customer base.
