Yamaha will give the R25 sports bike ABS from early next year for the Indonesia market. The company is set to launch the bike in India within the next 10 months.
When Yamaha unveiled the R25 earlier this year, every bike enthusiast in every country was salivating, having greed for the full faired bike with the tuning fork logo. However there was some disappointment too with the lack of ABS being the most talked about negative of this quarter-litre machine. The R25 is a sports bike for emerging markets and is being produced at Yamaha’s Indonesian facility. The demand for the Yamaha R25 has been so good that the company had to cut down on exports.
The going easy on export operations meant that the Yamaha R25 would get delayed in arriving in certain markets like Japan. The bike being sold in Yamaha’s home country comes with ABS as standard and now the R1 maker has made it clear that the safety system will be offered on the Indonesia version from early next year. This comes as good news for bike lovers as the R25 packs in a lot of bunch and deserves ABS as standard.
Meanwhile, Yamaha also unveiled the R3 a few days back, the motorcycle being aimed at developed markets. The R3 is essentially an R25 underneath but has a bigger heart. The R25 uses a 249cc engine while the R3 makes do with a 321cc mill. The power output of the R25 is lower with 36 PS on offer against the R3’s 42 PS. Even torque generated in the R3 is more at 29.6 Nm compared to the smaller engined R25’s 22.6 Nm. Both bikes use a parallel-twin layout.
Both the R25 and R3’s primary rival is the Kawasaki Ninja 300. Yamaha showcased the R25 in concept guise at the 2014 Auto Expo and has plans to launch the same next year. The R3 isn’t headed to India as it will turn out to be too expensive. With an expected price of Rs. 3 lakhs for the R25, this Yamaha is all set to rival the likes of the KTM RC 390, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the upcoming Honda CBR300R.
