News about the Yamaha R25 has been floating around the web since a long time with lots of speculation on its launch date and hundreds of spy pictures are available. Now, Japanese manufacturer Yamaha has launched a teaser website (IWantYamahaR25.com) which states the the R25 will be launched in Indonesia on 20th May 2014. The website doesn’t give any more details except the fact that the first few owners will get a premium helmet from AGV with VR/46 badging. Valentino Rossi has a huge fan following everywhere and hence this idea of a premium helmet will help Yamaha increase the buzz that is created around the R25.
Yamaha unveiled the R25 concept at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show first. It is a 250cc bike and it was unveiled by Valentino Rossi himself. The R25 will be powered by a 249cc twin-cylinder engine that will produce around 30 HP of power. While design elements have been inspired from the M1, some parts will be shared with the R15 to keep costs in check. We have already seen many spy shots of the R25 and it sure looks appealing. Yamaha produced around 100 bikes for testing purposes and the company is going all out to blow away competitors.
The Yamaha R25 is expected to change the quarter-litre game very significantly. It will compete with the Honda CBR250R, KTM RC 200 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300. We can expect the Yamaha R25 to be priced around Rs. 2.5 lakhs (ex-showroom), making it the most affordable twin-cylinder bike in the sub-continent. While the global launch is taking place later this month, Yamaha is working hard to ensure that the product is launched in India before this year ends or latest by early 2015. The R25 has created a lot of buzz for the Japanese brand.
