The last time we told you that we are telling you almost everything about the Yamaha R25, well here it comes again. The top speed which we saw of the R25 previously was 173 km/hr at 11,500 RPM and now a new picture and video has turned up from Indonesia saying that it does 196 km/hr on the speedo at 13,500 RPM, which is the very extreme limit of this motorcycle. As we can make out, this is done on a dyno, so there is no wind resistance and very less friction on the tyres. The bike does have a full tank of fuel though.
Like we said last time, there was no doubt the Yamaha R25 could achieve this current feat as the slightly more powerful Kawasaki Ninja 300 does 191 km/hr on the speedometer but the true top speed will be at least 10-12 km/hr less when measured on a VBOX on both these machines. Reaching the limit on the sixth cog takes a lot of effort. Keeping fuel to the minimum and redlining it from first all the way to the very maximum. It will be interesting to see how the KTM RC 390 turns up because whether the Austrians have fiddled with the engine or not, remains a mystery till launch.
We can already sense that Yamaha fans are going full bananas as the R25 accomplishes this goal. The R25 is powered by a 250cc parallel-twin engine producing 36 PS of power and 22 Nm of torque, it weighs in at 166 kgs. The R25 will compete with its chief rival, the Kawasaki Ninja 300 in India and it will be interesting to see how Yamaha prices this machine when it is launched here. We expect Yamaha to price the R25 under Rs. 3 lakhs, which makes it stellar value when the price of the Ninja 300 is factored in.
