Yamaha R15 V3 has finally been launched in India at a price of Rs. 1.25 lakhs.
After an awfully long wait of over 6 years, India Yamaha Motor has updated the motorcycle which gave a new life to the brand back in 2008. Just as the audience had started to believe that the R15 V2 is as good as a 150cc sportbike can be, the Japanese manufacturer surprised them all with the R15 V3. The model has finally made its way to India and at Rs. 1.25 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), Yamaha R15 V3 price has seen an increment of around Rs. 6000/- over the outgoing version.
With revised styling, LED headlamps and new alloy wheels, the R15 V3 looks sharper and sleeker than before without compromising totally on pillion comfort. There are some downgraded bits when compared to the international version such as lack of ABS, the presence of traditional telescopic forks and regular MRF tyres but that’s pretty much it. The fully-faired bike does see a bump in power output thanks to a new 155cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine.
Equipped with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation), the motor now produces 19.31 PS of power at 10,000 RPM and 14.7 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with an assist and slip clutch. Tipping the scales at 137 kgs, the R15 retains its lightweight nature which helps ensure brisk performance and nimble handling. The motorcycle continues to get a mono shock unit at the rear and comes with larger disc brakes measuring 282 mm and 240 mm at the front & rear respectively.
Sadly, ABS has been given a miss which is not done at this price point considering many cheaper offerings now come with ABS. Fuel tank capacity is slightly down to 11-litres (earlier 12-litres) while the ground clearance stands at 165 mm. The R15 V3 gets 100-section tyre at the front and 140-section tyre at the rear. It is offered in three colour schemes – Black Raven, Matte Red and Race Blue.
