The 2016 Yamaha R15 Ohlins Special Edition bike has been launched alongside the refreshed Yamaha R15 in Indonesia. The Special Edition motorcycle will be available for booking for a period of just one month.
The Yamaha R15 first went on sale in 2008 as a track focused 150cc sports bike with full faired styling which was previously only seen on wall posters of our teenage years. Armed with a relatively affordable price along with the Japanese manufacturer’s R-DNA, the bike was a spectacular hit with enthusiasts. Later, the motorcycle graduated to a new generation with the moniker ‘R15 V2.0’, which was refreshed today in Indonesia. Interestingly, along with the refreshed R15, the Japanese automaker also treated the fans of the bike with a Yamaha R15 Ohlins Special Edition.
The Yamaha R15 Ohlins Special Edition is virtually the same bike as the refreshed 2016 Yamaha R15, but with an aftermarket Ohlins monoshock suspension unit. The Special Edition bike also gets the updated colour schemes and decal designs. The special edition model can be booked via the R15’s official Indonesian website for a period of 30 days only between 15th March and 14th April.
The bike receives no other mechanical changes other than the Ohlins monoshock unit. The R15 continues with the 149cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which makes 16.5 BHP of power and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox in the Indonesian spec model. The 2016 Yamaha R15 Ohlins special edition is priced at IDR 32.8 million (around Rs. 1.66 lakhs) on-road Jakarta.
The refresh of the bike comes at a time when the next generation ‘R15 V3.0’ has been spied testing in Indonesia. Honda also recently updated the CBR150R, giving it a very sharp look like its key rival. The Yamaha R15 retails for Rs. 1.24 lakhs (OTR) in Delhi and makes 17 PS and 15 Nm. The braking department consists of disc brakes on both the wheels while the bike is suspended by telescopic front forks and a monoshock unit at the rear.
