With the Yamaha MT-15 in the production-ready phase, expected to be launched very soon.
The Yamaha MT-15 is slated to be the next big launch from the Japanese 2-wheeler manufacturer in India. The motorcycle has been spotted testing for the first time in the country.
This particular spotted Yamaha MT-15 seems to be in its production-ready form. However, there are some toned down features in order to keep the price very competitive. As for an example, the front suspension is done on conventional telescopic forks instead of the USD unit. Moreover, the rear gets a sedated box-section swingarm instead of the one that we see in the fully-faired counterpart (the R15 V3). However, the alloy wheel design appears to be taken straight from the R15.
The other aesthetic bits appear to be the same as the one on sale in the Thailand market, including the single piece unit and the bodyworks. Even the headlamp design appears to be the same. Moreover, even though the spotted model did not seem to have ABS, it could be offered at the time of launch.
At its heart, the new Yamaha MT-15 is expected to be powered by the same engine as the R15 V3, that too in the same tune. This means the 155cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine would be getting the VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology and makes 19.3 BHP of power and 14.7 Nm of peak torque. The 6-speed gearbox would do the transmission duties.
At the time of launch, the Yamaha MT-15 could have a price tag of around Rs. 1.2 lakhs. It will compete against the likes of the new KTM Duke 125 (similar pricing), TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and the Bajaj Pulsar NS 160.
