Yamaha MT-07 has been spied in India. We expect Yamaha to launch the naked street-fighter in India soon to compete in the 600cc-800cc segment.
The Indian superbike market has seen immense growth in the past few years. Many brands have officially entered the Indian market and have been posting good sales numbers. The most popular segment in the superbike scene is the 600cc-800cc segment because of their lower sticker price and suitability for Indian conditions. Brands like Kawasaki and Triumph have garnered highest sales numbers from this segment and now, Yamaha also plans to grab a part of this share with the MT-07.
Spotted recently near the Yamaha India plant, the MT-07 sports a 689cc, liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder motor pumping out 74.8 PS of power at 9000 RPM and 68 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM. What gives it great acceleration is the bike’s uneven firing interval which isn’t seen on many bikes. Since the bike is devoid of a fairing, it is light, tipping the scale at 179 kgs which gives it a great power-to-weight ratio. The 14-litre fuel tank limits the bike’s touring capacity and it is best suited for in-city rides or short outstation trips.
This year, the segment which the Yamaha MT-07 falls in will be seeing new launches and a few bikes have already been launched. The Benelli TNT 600i was launched a few days ago and has been priced aggressively. Ducati also launched the Monster 798 in India recently. Honda will soon be launching the CBR600F in India. If Yamaha wants to grab a bite of this market, it will have to price the MT-07 competitively which will only be possible if they take the CKD route and assemble the bike here. We expect the launch to happen soon. Good times ahead for Indian bike enthusiasts!
