Yamaha is certainly going places with the R3 full-faired sports bike that has captivated the globe with its outright power and dynamics. Based on the Yamaha R25 that is currently on sale in Indonesia, the Japanese auto giant has commenced promotional activities for the more powerful R3 that is slated for developed markets including Europe and the US. In this particular TV commercial targeted at US buyers, the Yamaha R3 has been promoted in a hilarious manner featuring ex-MotoGP rider Collin Edwards.

The commercial follows the Yamaha R3 fanatic Collin Edwards as he struggles to find fun things to do with his wife Alyssia which are of a common interest to both. Having failed with the clichéd attempts, the couple finally match the same wavelength with the new Yamaha R3 that turns out be the perfect couple activity. Certainly a hilarious way to put the message across, the ad also encourages female riders to opt for the R3 (with the low seat making it more accessible) and is surely something the bike enthusiast boys will be pushing their wives or girlfriends to do more often or vice versa.

Coming to the Yamaha R3, the bike draws power from a larger 321cc twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine producing 42 PS of power and 29.6 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed gearbox. Based on a diamond chassis like the R25, the bike rides on telescopic front forks (from KYB) and a monoshock suspension set-up at the rear. The motorcycle also gets ABS as standard. Scheduled to go on sale next year in several markets, the Yamaha R3 will be locking horns against the Kawasaki Ninja 300 as well as the KTM RC 390 in the segment.

The R3 was also showcased at the EICMA Show in Europe earlier this month
The R3 will be manufactured at Yamaha’s Indonesia plant & exported to other markets
The bike shares its underpinnings with the R25, but gets a a larger 321cc motor
