Yamaha M-Slaz 150 Launched In Thailand, Priced At Rs. 1.66 Lakhs

The Yamaha M-Slaz shares its underpinnings with the R15 but gets slightly better mechanicals while the styling is completely new and edgiest of the lot.

The Yamaha M-Slaz gets sophisticated mechanicals and highly improved styling

Revealing every detail that you need to know about its latest offering, Yamaha has officially launched the M-Slaz 150 street-fighter motorcycle at the Thailand International Motor Expo, priced at 89,500 Thai Baht (Rs. 1.66 lakhs). The M-Slaz 150 is essentially the YZF-R15 under the sharply styled design and shares most of its mechanicals with the supersport offering. That said, the M-Slaz is styled more enthusiastically and looks far more radical with strong character lines, bold fenders, split seats and a sharply designed headlight cluster.

The Yamaha M-Slaz measures 1955 mm in length, 795 mm in width and 1065 mm in height with a wheelbase of 1350 mm, seat height of 805 mm and a ground clearance of 164 mm. The street-fighter is based on the same Deltabox frame as the R15 and has a rake angle of 26-degrees while the castor trail is measured at 88 mm. Further, the M-Slaz packs in some very interesting bits including full LED headlight and tail light, becoming the first bike in the segment to do so. The bike also gets a full LCD instrument console with a LED backlight.

In addition, the starter switch is trickled down from the MT-09 and MT-07 models on the Yamaha M-Slaz and is now integrated into the engine kill switch. There is no keyless ignition as rumoured earlier. In terms of power, the M-Slaz uses a 149cc single-cylinder, liquid cooled SOHC engine with fuel injection that runs on 91 octane or higher fuel. The motor has a compression ratio of 10.4:1 and a bore and stroke length of 57.7 x 58.7 mm, paired to a 6-speed gearbox.

Suspension duties are performed by 37 mm USD forks at the front and a monoshock setup at the rear; while riding on 110/70/R17 front and 130/70/R17 rear rubber. The new Yamaha M-Slaz is seriously one of the more good looking motorcycles to have come from the automaker’s stable and gets sharply styled elements that will work very much in favour of young buyers. The automaker has announced no plans of introducing the M-Slaz in India at present, but we surely hope it reconsiders the same.
