Yamaha has launched the Ray Precious Edition in India which is dressed in black and gets pink patterns on the body. On the front of the scooter ‘Precious Edition’ is written while on the rear ‘Ray Cygnus’ is written. The pink graphics with hearts might appeal to female buyers. The company calls the Cygnus Ray in Precious Edition as beauty and black. Yamaha is associated with Ponds Femina Miss India 2013 and this limited edition model seems to be influenced from the same. This edition of the Yamaha Ray is priced at Rs. 48,605/- (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The Yamaha Ray was launched last year and has been very successful for the Japanese automaker. The scooter is targeted at females and Yamaha launched a male specific variant earlier this year, called the Ray Z. Although the Ray and Ray Z are identical, the latter gets minor design changes to lure young boys to the brand. Powering the Yamaha Ray is a 113cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which produces 7.1 PS of power and 8.1 Nm of torque. The claimed fuel mileage is 53 km/l.
Yamaha’s current focus in India is on the volume segment, i.e scooters and commuter motorcycles. The automaker was widely speculated to launch a 250cc performance bike but has put all such plans on hold. Yamaha keeps updating its products with new colours every year and also launched special and limited edition models frequently. However Yamaha really needs to bring in a performance motorcycle to continue the momentum they started with the launch of the R15. Enthusiasts have been waiting since long for a quarter-litre machine from Yamaha but the wait seems unending.
