Indonesia is a breeding ground of motorcycle enthusiasts and Yamaha has finally took note of this market. The Japanese manufacturer finally launched the Indonesian spec R15 in the country in the 150cc segment offering spectacular performance at a reasonable cost. The fully-faired YZF-R15 will be sold alongside the naked version called Vixion of the motorcycle already on sale in Indonesia.
Compared to the Indian version, the Indonesian spec YZF-R15 gets several updates. The changes on the R15 include new LED tail light cluster, new turn indicators, new ignition and key. In terms of dimensions as well, the Indonesian R15 varies marginally than the Indian version. The powertrain has been changed as well to meet the Indonesian traffic regulations. The Indonesian spec R15 uses the same 150cc 4-valve, liquid-cooled engine, however is tuned to produce 16.5 PS of power and 14.5 Nm of torque (0.5 PS and 0.5 Nm less than the Indian version). The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission and the bike weighs 138 kgs.
The Yamaha R15 has been launched in three colour options namely Racing Blue, Supernova Red and Midnight Black. The Grid Gold colour which was recently put on sale in India is not being offered for the Indonesian market. The R15 has been priced at 28 million Indonesian Rupiah on road (Rs. 1.47 lakhs) and will be primarily competing against the Honda CBR150R in the segment. Yamaha has managed to price the R15 quite competitively, compared to the CBR150R which will also help the company build volumes. The company has already sold 1500 bikes, through online bookings even before the official launch in June.
While the styling has not been changed radically, Yamaha has updated the Indonesian spec R15 with considerable changes. Yamaha India recently introduced new colours on the R15 in India and could be in a bid to clear existing stocks. Is Yamaha actually planning to introduce the updated version in India later this year? Is the R15 V3 finally on its way? We will keep you posted on Yamaha India’s future plans.
