Leaked type approval document of the Yamaha FZ-X has let out the specs of the upcoming motorcycle.
Ever since Yamaha trademarked the title FZ-X back in November 2020, speculations ran rife about the kind of motorcycle the Japanese brand would come up with.
It was thought to be a small adventure motorcycle, but spy shots of a retro-style motorcycle that emerged in March crushed that theory.
Now, we can state with confidence that the Yamaha FZ-X will be based on the FZ FI, for the type approval document states it has a 149cc heart putting out 12.4 PS at 7250 RPM, the same as the 150cc commuter bike.
Further, the leaked Yamaha FZ-X specs show that the bike will be 2020 mm long, 785 mm wide, 1115 mm tall with a wheelbase of 1330 mm.
On the other hand, the 2021 Yamaha FZ FI is 1990 mm long, 780 mm wide, 1080 mm tall and has the same 1330 mm wheelbase.
When it comes to how the motorcycle will look, it is evident that Yamaha will give it a restyled fuel tank similar to the one used in its XSR range of bikes and retro-inspired styling overall.
The bike will come with a long, flat seat, with slightly forward set foot pegs, a short tail, and the same suspension and braking components as the FZ FI. The telescopic forks do get gaiters in addition, though.
When it gets launched, the Yamaha FZ-X should help the FZ range, which garnered close to 17,800 unit sales in February, find more buyers every month. Price-wise, it should cost below Rs. 1.10 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
