Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid gets mild-hybrid tech, TFT display & enhanced connectivity

Yamaha has introduced the FZ-S Fi Hybrid in India at a price of Rs. 1.45 lakhs (ex-showroom), bringing mild-hybrid technology to its popular FZ series. This latest iteration of the motorcycle features an On-Board Diagnostics 2B (OBD2B)-compliant engine, a Starter Motor Generator (SMG) and an upgraded 4.2-inch TFT display with smartphone integration.

Mild-Hybrid Technology

The FZ-S Fi Hybrid, first showcased at Auto Expo 2025, incorporates a mild-hybrid system similar to what Yamaha and TVS have previously implemented in their scooters. The motorcycle’s SMG facilitates a seamless and silent start, while also enabling an automatic stop/start function. This system helps conserve fuel by shutting off the engine during traffic halts and instantly restarting it with a clutch action. Additionally, a small battery assists with short bursts of acceleration, further contributing to fuel efficiency.

Performance and Technical Specifications

At the core of the FZ-S Fi Hybrid is the familiar 149cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, producing 12.4 HP and 13.3 Nm of torque. The engine remains paired with a 5-speed gearbox, maintaining Yamaha’s established performance characteristics. While largely unchanged from the standard model, the hybrid variant complies with the latest OBD2B emission regulations. It also weighs slightly more at 138 kg, marking an increase of 1-2 kg over the FZ-S V4.

New TFT Display and Connectivity Features

A key differentiator for the FZ-S Fi Hybrid is its updated 4.2-inch colour TFT display, which comes equipped with Bluetooth connectivity. This addition enhances the rider’s experience by providing real-time navigation through Google Maps, music controls, geo-fencing and last-parked location tracking. These connectivity features make the motorcycle more user-friendly and technologically advanced.

Ergonomic Improvements & New Colour Options

Alongside the hybrid technology and TFT screen, Yamaha has introduced subtle ergonomic refinements. The handlebar position has been optimised for better comfort, and the switchgear has been adjusted to enhance accessibility, particularly for riders wearing gloves. The horn switch has also been repositioned for ease of use. Additionally, the FZ-S Fi Hybrid is now available in two fresh colour options: Racing Blue and Cyan Metallic Grey.

Pricing and Market Positioning

At Rs. 1.45 lakhs, the FZ-S Fi Hybrid is priced Rs. 10,000 higher than the standard FZ-S Fi, which remains available on Yamaha’s website. The premium pricing reflects the added features and technological advancements, positioning the motorcycle as a more refined and efficient offering within the FZ lineup.

With its blend of mild-hybrid efficiency, updated digital features, and ergonomic improvements, the Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid presents an appealing option for riders looking for a technologically advanced yet practical commuter motorcycle.
