Following up with the launch of the FZ/FZ-S models in India, Yamaha is all to launch the Fazer FI V2.0 in the country by the end of September. Essentially a half faired version of the FZ street-fighter motorcycle, the Fazer gets the same underpinnings as the FZ and will also retain the mechanicals from its naked sibling. In its second outing though, the Fazer 2.0 gets comprehensive updates to the half-fairing, while the rest of the motorcycle is the same as the FZ 2.0.
While retaining the existing design, the lines are sharper and the twin-headlights have a subtle flare on the half-fairing of the 2014 Fazer. Yamaha has cleverly included the faux air scoops from the FZ V2.0 into the half-fairing of the 2014 Fazer, lending a sportier look to the bike. There is also the inclusion of new racing body graphics on the side to complete the new look. The new fairing coupled with the updated FZ’s design manage to look quite appealing, while the leaner design will only add to the agility of the motorcycle.
The Yamaha Fazer also shares it powertrain with the new FZ V2.0 and draws power from the 149cc single-cylinder motor with fuel injection technology that produces 13.1 PS of power at 8000 RPM and 12.8 Nm of torque at 6000 RPM. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a 5-speed gearbox. Yamaha has also incorporated its new Blue Core technology that promises improved fuel efficiency and power on the bike. We did hope to see a bit more power to come on the Fazer, but considering a weight reduction of 3 kgs (current Fazer weighs 141 kgs), there will be improvement in performance.
In terms of suspension, the 2014 Yamaha Fazer V2.0 gets telescopic front forks and a monoshock setup at the rear. The bike rides on 100/80.17 tyre at the front, while the rear gets 140/60/17 tyre from MRF. Stopping power comes from a front disc brake and rear drum brake. There is still no signs of a rear disc brake, much to our disappointment. Keeping the tourers happy, the Fazer 2.0 will come with a 12-litre fuel tank and an impressive range of around 500 kms, while also offering smoother power delivery over its predecessor.
With the inclusion of fuel-injection technology, we were not very surprised to see the significant jump in the Yamaha FZ V2.0’s prices and expect the same with the Fazer V2.0 as well. While the 2014 FZ-S retails at Rs. 82,396/-, the 2014 Fazer FI V2.0 will be priced around Rs. 88,000/- (all prices ex-showroom, Mumbai); competing against the likes of the TVS Apache RTR 160, Suzuki Gixxer and Honda’s upcoming 160cc motorcycle. The Fazer will be available in three colour options namely red dawn, white cloud, and black hawk.
