The Yamaha E01 electric scooter could be introduced in India next year
Looks like India Yamaha Motor is getting ready to enter the country’s fledgling electric scooter market as the Japanese brand has showcased 2 models to its dealers here.
The scooters in question are the E01 and the NEO’S and both electric scooters made their debut last month. Of the duo, it is the E01 which is likely to first make it to India.
Showcased at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, the Yamaha E01 electric scooter will have, according to the R15 maker, the usability equal to a 50-125cc petrol-powered scooter.
Styled as a maxi scooter, the E01 has twin headlamps, a flyscreen, high-set handlebar, a digital dash, Bluetooth connectivity, keyless ignition, 3 ride modes, step-up seat, alloy wheels and disc brakes.
It will come with a fixed battery pack, a 8.1 kW (11 BHP) motor and 104 km of cruising (at 60 km/hr) range. The E01’s real-world proof-of-concept (PoC) testing is scheduled to begin from July this year.
The NEO’S electric scooter on the other hand has already entered European markets. It comes with a small 50.4 V, 19.2 Ah Lithium-ion battery pack (weighs 8 kg) and a 2.5 kW (3.35 BHP) electric motor delivering 136 Nm of torque.
Claimed range in ‘Eco’ mode is 38.5 km, while the addition of a secondary battery increases range to about 68 km. Using a standard AC charger, the battery packs can be topped up in 8 hours.
