Yamaha Motors has introduced a new variant for its successful scooter, the Cygnus Alpha. The new variant comes equipped with a front disc brake for added stopping power and safety, and is priced at Rs. 52,556 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Yamaha has launched a new top end trim for its Cygnus Alpha scooter, which comes with a front disc brake setup. The variant will be available at Yamaha dealerships by later this week. The Cygnus Alpha was launched by Yamaha following its entry into the Indian scooter segment with the Ray. Since its launch, the Cygnus Alpha has turned out to be quite successful. However, with the competition in the segment getting tougher with every launch, the front disc brake will give the Alpha an edge over its rivals.
The Cygnus Alpha is powered by a 113cc single cylinder engine, which puts out 7 HP of power at 7500 RPM and 8.1 Nm of torque at 5000 RPM. This motor comes mated to a V-matic auto transmission like all the other scooters in the segment. The scooter also comes equipped with Yamaha’s new BlueCore technology, which helps it return a claimed fuel efficiency of 66 Km/l.
Being a day to day work horse, the Cygnus Alpha comes with many practical goodies, like a huge 21-litre storage space, a large foot board and a flat and long seat for better accommodating two riders. On the looks department, it gets alloy wheels and new body graphics. Now, a front disc brake has been added to the top variant, for added safety. The new version also gets two new colour schemes; Radiant Cyan and Marvel Black. The scooter is priced at Rs. 52,556/- (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The scooter market has seen a major growth boost over the years. With the Activa now competing against the Hero Splendor for sale supremacy, it is clear that the scooter segment is not going to slow down any time soon. Yamaha also, realising this, has tried to capitalise on the situation by launching its own set of scooters. With the new Cygnus Alpha and its disc variant, Yamaha aims to take 10% of the market share by end of this year.
