During a recent business briefing, Yamaha has showcased a new curious range of motorcycle engines. The meeting was held in Tokyo and Yamaha has revealed a new 3-cylinder engine along with a new twin-cylinder engine to select people. The 3-cylinder engine will be powering Yamaha’s upcoming street fighter MT-09. Last month, Yamaha released its plan to launch the MT-09 next year with a 3-cylinder, 847cc engine that produces 110 BHP of power at 10,000 RPM and 85 Nm of torque at 8500 RPM.
The next engine that seems most interesting in the images is an undefined 2-cylinder engine. This engine could be developed for competing with the Honda CBR500R. Unfortunately, no information has been shared by Yamaha yet but twin exhaust outlets and overall size of the engine hints at it being for half-litre bikes. The Honda CBR500R is powered by a 473cc, parallel-twin engine that churns out 47 BHP of power and 43 Nm of torque. Similar figures could be expected by the new 2-cylinder engine from Yamaha.
The new 500cc motor is expected to power a large stream of motorcycles like street, sports and semi-faired motorcycles. The power is expected to be well-distributed throughout the complete rev range as the company claims for the upcoming MT-09. The new 500cc Yamaha will compete with the CBR500R in international markets and if TVS-BMW will also release their 500cc motorcycle, that will be the second nemesis for Yamaha. The Japanese moto-maker is also developing a new 250cc motorcycle in its ‘R’ series to race against the Honda CBR250R and Kawasaki Ninja 300 in the near future.
