Yamaha will participate in the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show to be held at Tokyo Big Sight from November 22nd to December 1st. The list of prototype vehicles to be showcased by Yamaha in the event include BOLT Café, PES1, PED1, EVINO, EKIDS, YPJ-01 EPSILON Project 01 and TRICITY. The concept bikes to be showcased are a retro café racer and also electric bikes powered by lithium-ion battery source including a street bike, dirt bike, e-scooter and a kids mini bike. In addition, Yamaha will also display “YZ250F” competition motorcrosser, the “YZR-M1” MotoGP bike, the VIKING recreational off-highway vehicle amongst others.
Bolt Café racer is a street bike with a compact chassis bearing an air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 4-valve engine of 950cc capacity depicting the versatility of modifications that can be done on the bike. This bike is based on Star Bolt and is probably not destined for production. PES1 acronym stands for Passion, EV and Street Sport. Yamaha Smart Power Module on this bike is described by Yamaha as a monocoque structure that also functions as the frame. A DC brushless motor is used on the PES1 while the transmission is switchable between manual and automatic. The vehicle weighs under 100 kgs.
PED1 which is the acronym for Passion Electric Dirt Sport shares the same Yamaha Smart Power Module as that present on the PES1. Though the transmission promises both manual and automatic modes, the power is transferred to the rear through a chain final drive. The PED1 sports plenty of suspension travel up front facilitating off-road possibilities. The bike is powered by a lithium-ion battery with brushless DC motor while the total weight is restricted below 85 kgs.
EVINO is an electric scooter in lines with the Vino’s retro-themed designs. The motor is a DC brushless design. The motor is hub-mounted and a built-in regenerative charging system is incorporated in the scooter. EKIDS prototype is designed to be an electric-powered learner for kids. The DC brushless motor on this one too is mounted on the hub. This is compact enough to be ridden indoors or carried around in vehicles making it extremely user friendly without any worries about oil/gasoline spillage.
