Yamaha which is well acclaimed for its performance bikes has recently announced that its Indian subsidiary has geared up to achieve the sales target of one million units by the end of next financial year. The usage of performance bikes has increased rapidly from the last couple of years and the Japanese 2-wheeler manufacturer has registered a whopping 34 percent growth rate in the overall sales in the last fiscal. To further boost its presence in the performance space, Yamaha plans to launch the Ray 125 and R25 in the local market later this year.
Yamaha is currently developing its new marketing strategy for the Indian market and the automaker hopes that it will become a mass market leader in the coming years. Yamaha will also extend the range of its product lineup and we can also expect the inception of a new fleet of high performance bikes from the Japanese manufacturer. The scooter segment has witnessed a steep growth in the Indian automotive scenario from the last couple of years as there is an increase in women riders and the scooters are their first choice as they have a commuter friendly approach.
Yamaha currently has a share of 40 percent of its overall sales from the scooter segment and the company is apprehensive that it might increase to almost 50-55 percent in the near future. Yamaha’s Indian product lineup currently offers the Ray, Ray Z and Alpha in the scooter segment and it is planning to add more vehicles in this segment after studying the feasibility of the type of scooters to be introduced. The company will also increase its presence in the rural markets and is planning a completely different approach to achieve its set target.
