Yamaha will be launching ABS variants of the R15 V3 and FZ in the first month of 2019.
Amidst the rush from almost every motorcycle manufacturer to develop and put out ABS variants of their two-wheelers, Yamaha is also making headway with two of its very popular models. A dealer for the motorcycle giant has confirmed to MotorBeam that the company will commence bookings of ABS equipped motorcycles by 15th January 2019.
This move comes in after the decision passed by the government of India to make ABS compulsory on all two-wheelers with engine capacity of over 125cc.
We have learned that the R15 V3 and the FZ series will be the first to get ABS. There is no word on the other motorcycles that are currently on sale like the SZ although the company recently launched the Saluto with UBS (linked braking is compulsory for 2-wheelers under 125cc engine capacity).
Deliveries will start approximately one month after the date of commencing bookings. Although, the dealers will only accept bookings for the ABS variants once the stock from 2018 is cleared up which might turn into a longer wait to get the ABS variants of these motorcycles for some.
The only non-CBU Yamaha motorcycle to be equipped with ABS currently is the R3 which was launched at the 2018 Auto Expo in February. Expect a premium of Rs. 8000-12,000/- for the ABS models with Yamaha likely to choose the cost-effective single-channel unit where ABS only works on the front wheel.
