The Wuling Hong Guang is a rebadged Chevrolet Enjoy, which has got a facelift recently in China and is now known as Hong Guang S. The Hong Guang is a joint product developed between General Motors, SAIC and Wuling Motors. In India, we get the Chevrolet Enjoy that has basic exteriors and interiors with minimal features for aggressive pricing. In China, the Wuling Hong Guang S gets a premium treatment with upmarket well equipped interiors as well as stylish exteriors.
The Wuling Hong Guang S is a compact MPV and is known for its spacious seven seater cabin. The facelift model has been introduced in China with a starting price of RMB 61,800 (Rs. 6.16 lakhs). The Hong Guang was first launched in China in 2010 and now gets cosmetic changes such as chrome-plated bar up front with a revised grille and a big air inlet for a sporty touch. The headlights remain the same but the fog lamp cluster gets redesigned. The Hong Guang comes with eight exterior colours now.
The interiors of the facelifted Chevrolet Enjoy are treated with a combination of beige and light grey to give a sense of space. To add to the premium feel inside the cabin, the carmaker has used piano black elements with chrome inserts on the interiors. The centre console consists of a 7-inch HD touch screen multimedia system, above which sits a crystal clock. There is a three-spoke steering wheel with controls and the seats are six-way adjustable. The carmaker claims that they have improved the NVH levels, which was an issue in the previous model.
The Wuling Hong Guang S gets a new set of petrol engines in China including the 1.2-litre motor and 1.5-litre P-Tec engine. The 1.2-litre petrol motor churns out a maximum power of 86 BHP, while the new 1.5-litre P-Tec engine produces 110 BHP of power with 146 Nm of torque that returns a fuel efficiency of 13.33 km/l. In the Indian market, the Chevrolet Enjoy gets a 1.4-litre petrol motor that produces 103 BHP of power and a 1.3-litre diesel that produces 76 BHP of power. We don’t expect General Motors to introduce the facelifted Enjoy anytime soon.
