After compact sedans and SUVs, it is now turn for compact MPVs to hit the auto market. While mini MPVs like the Maruti Ertiga and soon-be-launched Honda Mobilio have rippled the market by finding a lot of takers, a new segment is going to be spawned and these compact MPVs will be slotted below the current mini MPVs. Nissan revived the Datsun brand by launching the GO hatchback in India. The GO+ MPV, based on the hatchback will soon be launched in India and it has been spotted undergoing testing by MotorBeam reader Saravana Deepan.
The Datsun GO+ is a sub-4-metre MPV and it is expected to arrive in the market at an attractive price with a huge value-for-money proposition. The MPV will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine (from the GO hatchback) that produces 68 PS of power, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The GO+ gets three rows of seats with a 2+3+3 seating layout. Since the GO+ is a sub 4-metre vehicle, it will get tax benefits from the government and hence Nissan would be in a position to price the vehicle very aggressively.
Not just the Datsun GO+, the Maruti Celerio MPV is also likely to be a sub 4-metre vehicle that will be launched in India. Maruti will slot the Celerio MPV below the Ertiga while Nissan will slot the GO+ below the Evalia. These compact MPVs will undercut the prices of other MPVs like the Chevrolet Enjoy and Honda Mobilio. The base variant of the GO+ is priced at approximately Rs. 4.42 lakhs in Indonesia so even if it is priced at Rs. 5 lakhs here, it still seems like a very good price. The Datsun GO+ as well as the Maruti Celerio MPV will both surely find a lot of takers since buyers are always on the lookout for products that offer the best bang for their buck.
