The number 0001 is available for as high as Rs. 4 lakhs!
The Regional Transport Office (RTO) of Aurangabad has called for applications for choice in registration numbers for 2-wheelers as part of the new series that will soon be declared.
An RTO official said that the numbers under the existing series are about to end and the new series MH 20 EZ will start soon. The bidding for the choice numbers has begun with a declaration of the new series. The official said an auction would be held if multiple claims are made for the same number.
As per the laid down norms, the highest fee is charged for allotment of vehicle registration number 0001 for which buyers will have to pay Rs. 4 lakhs and Rs. 50,000/- for 4-wheelers and 2/3-wheelers respectively.
Numbers like 0009, 0099, 0786, 0999 and 9999 bear a high price of Rs. 2.5 lakhs for 4-wheelers and Rs. 20,000 for 2/3-wheelers. Whereas, numbers such as 0111, 0222, 0333, 0444, 0555, 0666, 0777, 0888, 1111, 2222, 3333, 4444, 5555, 6666, 7777 and 8888 are priced at Rs. 70,000/-for 4-wheelers and Rs. 15,000/- for 2/3-wheelers.
Another category of numbers having attractive permutation and combination of digits too is present for which Rs. 15,000/- is charged for 4-wheelers and Rs. 5000/- for 2/3 wheelers.
Despite these high costs, a lot of buyers across cities in India prefer paying extra charges to get a nice number of their choice. While some do it for numerology reasons, some do it just to boast. There are also people who own multiple cars and prefer having similar numbers of every car of theirs.
