VW, Skoda, Audi, GM, Bajaj, RE, Nissan, Ford To Skip 2018 Auto Expo

Volkswagen Ameo Diesel Review

A slew of brands will skip the 2018 Auto Expo owing to concerns around Return on Investments (ROI) and effectiveness of participation.

Volkswagen recently launched the Tiguan in the Indian market

The 2018 Auto Expo will be held in Greater Noida in February 2018 which will be organised by industry body SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) and business chamber CII (Confederation of Indian Industry).

The Volkswagen Group which operates brands like Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi, Ducati, Porsche and Lamborghini will miss the 2018 edition of the Auto Expo over concerns around Return on Investments and effectiveness of participation. Top executives at Volkswagen, however, say, they will be back in the 2020 edition of the Auto Expo if it fits their marketing plan then.

Sources within the company say there were serious concerns around the effectiveness of participation at the event which is being held 25-30 kms away from Central Delhi. Also, the huge investments are something that have prompted the brands to reconsider their decision.

The entry of new brands like Kia, SAIC and Peugeot have made the event organisers all enthusiastic and at the same time, they are also disappointed because brands like Royal Enfield, Nissan, Bajaj Auto and Ford are also skipping the 2018 edition of the Auto Expo. The Auto Expo is one of the costliest motor shows in the world which begs the question for automakers, is it worth it?
