The 2015 Volvo XC90 made its Indian debut in May this year and has opened to a pleasing response receiving 266 pre-orders within two months of arrival. Based on Volvo’s new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), the second generation XC90 received phenomenal appreciation in the international markets for its extensive number of features as well as innovations and the case seems to be the same in India as well. The Swedish automaker allocated 350 units of the new generation model for India this year, of which only 84 units are now available for purchase.
Globally, Volvo has received over 57,000 orders for the all-new XC90 and the booking record conveys that over 76 percent of customers have opted for the top-of-the-line inscription trim that comes loaded with all the luxury and safety features. The new XC90 is also seen as the first proper luxury SUV offering from the Scandinavian manufacturer and is the first step towards a newer generation of vehicles. Volvo further stated that the success of the model in India will make way for newer and exciting cars to be launched in the following years.
Adding another feather to its cap, the second generation Volvo XC90 was recently awarded five stars at the Euro NCAP tests and also turned out to be the first model from any manufacturer to score 100 percent in the Safety Assist category. Doing a quick round up of specifications, the new XC90 draws power from a 2.0-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder D5 diesel engine churning out 225 HP and 470 Nm of torque, paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission with AWD as standard.
