Volvo has launched its flagship 3-seater luxury SUV, the XC90 Excellence Lounge Console in India.
There are a handful of automotive companies that have undergone a massive design overhaul and in turn, came out brilliant. 10 years from now, no one would’ve thought that a boring and boxy family SUV would be as striking as we see the XC90 today.
Gone is the rather gloomy design of the past and in comes a bold and butch looking SUV. In essence, the XC90 directly takes on the likes of the Range Rover Sport, Porsche Cayenne, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Audi Q7, Mercedes Benz GLS and the BMW X7.
The Volvo XC90 comes in 4 variants namely – Momentum, R-Design, Inscription and Excellence. It gets two engine options, the D5 diesel and the T8 Twin petrol hybrid. However, the Excellence Lounge Console only comes coupled with the T8 Twin petrol hybrid offering a combined output of 400 PS and 640 Nm of peak torque. It is coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Excellence Lounge Console is the top of the line variant which comes with features like 4-zone climate control, 20 speaker Bowers and Wilkins music system, 21-inch wheels and Nappa leather upholstery with open-pore un-lacquered wooden inserts throughout the cabin. In addition, it gets a refrigerator with a bottle holder besides crystal handmade glasses. The icing on top is that all three electrically reclining seats get a massage function.
The Excellence Lounge Console covers all the gizmos of the Excellence variant. Furthermore, it replaces the front passenger seat, with a multipurpose console. This console can transform into a large touchscreen which rotates to form a flat table. The table has an illuminated vanity mirror along with a compartment for some jewellery, accessories, etc.
The same console can fold down which liberates more legroom and a full view through the front windshield. In addition to a cushioned footrest, this console includes a lockable compartment for extra security as well.
In conclusion, Volvo has hit the sweet spot with the XC90 Excellence Lounge Console which in essence, takes the luxury quotient to a whole new level because the whole concept, is flawlessly executed. For a premium of Rs. 9 lakhs over the XC90 Excellence (Rs. 1.31 crores, ex-showroom), it provides an experience which is second to none, in this segment.
