A single unit of the Volvo S90 sedan has been imported to India for certification purposes as per import data on Zauba. Volvo is expected to launch its flagship sedan in the coming 3-4 months’ time.
As per the import reports at Zauba, Volvo has imported a single unit of its flagship sedan, the S90 for the purpose of certification. The sedan was first showcased at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show, and is expected to be launched here in India by the end of 2016. The S90 when launched will go head to head against the likes of the Mercedes E-Class, Audi A6 and BMW 5-Series.
The Volvo S90 will carry the brand’s latest design philosophy with edgy lines and an overall muscular profile. The S90 replaces the ageing S80 sedan. Being a Volvo, the S90 comes loaded with safety features like semi-autonomous driving technology which assists you with steering, acceleration and braking at speeds of up to 128 km/hr to avoid an accident in the first place. Further it also boasts of a 360-degree camera, active high beam, park assist, pilot assist, large animal detection and a new city safety feature, which is an advanced form of a collision detection system. As for the infotainment system, it gets Volvo’s Sensus system with Apple CarPlay just like that on the XC90.
The unit imported has a 4-cylinder 2.0-litre diesel engine that outputs 190 HP of power. The engine that will come to India is said to be the same unit powering the Volvo XC90, with a different state of tune. Globally, the Volvo S90 comes in three variants – T4, T6, and T8. The top-of-the-line T8 even gets a hybrid powertrain option. India is likely to receive the base T4 and mid T6 variants. As for price, expect it to be priced around the Rs. 45-50 lakh mark.
