Volvo C40 Recharge India launch is slated for 2023, aggressive price tag expected
Volvo is all set to launch the C40 Recharge electric coupe SUV in India in 2023. It’s a pure electric car built from the grounds up and not an IC car’s body shell with an electric powertrain like the recently launched XC40 Recharge.
The C40 Recharge has all the benefits of an SUV but has a lower and sleeker coupe design. It is based on the CMA vehicle platform and is the first Volvo model in history with a pure electric powertrain.
The rear of the C40 Recharge features a striking rear-end design to go with the lower roof line, while the new front design introduces a new face for electric Volvos and includes headlights with state-of-the-art pixel technology.
Inside, the C40 Recharge provides customers with the high seating position while it’s available with a range of colour and deco options unique to the model. It’s also the first Volvo model to be completely leather free.
Like the XC40 Recharge, the C40 Recharge comes with 1 of the best infotainment systems on the market jointly developed with Google and based on the Android operating system.
It provides consumers with Google apps and services built-in such as Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play Store. Unlimited data enables superior connectivity and the C40 Recharge will receive software updates over the air.
The powertrain consists of 2 electric motors, 1 on the front and another 1 on the rear axle powered by a 78 kWh battery that can be fast charged to 80 percent in about 40 minutes. The claimed range is over 430 km per charge.
In the recently concluded Euro NCAP crash tests, the C40 Recharge has come out with flying colours bagging the coveted 5 star rating.
By 2025, Volvo aims for 50 percent of its global sales volume to consist of fully electric cars with the rest hybrids. By 2030, it plans for every car it sells to be pure electric.
When launched in India, the C40 Recharge is likely to have an aggressive price tag undercutting even mass market manufacturers like Kia.
