The Volkswagen Vento Sport edition has been launched in India with prices starting from Rs. 11.44 lakhs (ex-showroom, India) for the 1.6-litre petrol variant. The Vento Sport is now the range-topping trim positioned above the Highline Plus grade. The company’s dealerships have started accepting bookings for the sedan for a token amount of Rs. 75,000/-. While the automaker has shown the Vento Sport as a rear-wheel drive car in their advertisement pictures, it isn’t. It is a regular front-wheel drive car.
The Vento Sport gets only subtle cosmetic tweaks and no mechanical changes. In terms of styling, the Vento Sport comes in an all new Flash Red colour. There are Sport badges on the front fender, faux carbon-fibre finish on the ORVMs, blackened roof and grille, new 10-spoke 16-inch Portago alloy wheels and a rear spoiler finished in gloss black. The cabin of the Sport edition remains untouched and is identical to the Highline Plus trim in terms of features and equipment. So you get a touchscreen infotainment system, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear lever, faux-leather upholstery, rear parking camera and automatic climate control.
The Vento Sport continues with the same 1.2-litre TSI, 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5-litre TDI diesel engines. The 1.2-litre TSI motor generates 105 PS of power and 175 Nm of torque and comes mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox while the 1.6-litre petrol engine is good enough for 105 PS of power and 153 Nm of torque. The 1.6-litre powertrain comes paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. The 1.5-litre diesel produces 110 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque and comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. A 7-speed DSG automatic is offered as optional.
