Volkswagen offers the new Jetta in diesel form only and now the company plans to launch a petrol powered version of their D-segment car. The Volkswagen Jetta is expected to be launched with a petrol motor at the 2012 Auto Expo and will use the same engine as the Skoda Laura. The 1.8-liter TSI unit produces 160 BHP of power between 4500-6200 RPM and 250 Nm of torque between 1500-4500 RPM. Mated to a 6-speed manual, Volkswagen will also offer a DSG option on the top of the line petrol variant.
Now Volkswagen have not made any official announcements on the launch of the petrol powered Jetta but a few test mules have been spotted along the Mumbai-Pune expressway. Furthermore the Auto Expo is a great platform for Volkswagen to slip in new variants of its existing cars. For the record, Volkswagen will not launch any new model at the Expo and will only reveal refreshes of its current line-up. With petrol prices rising, the petrol Jetta might not be the next best thing, however it will give petrol heads an option, competing with the Honda Civic and Skoda Laura.
