VW Tiguan R Line Front

Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line Launched In India, Comes With Dynamic Chassis Control Pro Suspension Setup, Priced At Rs. 49 Lakh

Volkswagen has introduced the Tiguan R-Line. The flagship SUV is priced at Rs. 49 Lakh (ex-showroom). The third-gen Tiguan will be sold as a Complete-Built Unit (CBU) import. The Tiguan R-Line will be sold in limited numbers and is more expensive than the previous generation model by Rs. 11 Lakh.

Styling

The Tiguan R-Line is a futuristic evolution of the outgoing Tiguan. At the front, there are sleek headlights with a connected LED strip and front grilles with a mesh pattern. The R-Line is a sportier trim, and therefore, the chrome highlights are kept to a minimum. Additionally, black highlights are used to complement the persimmon red metallic exterior.

The Tiguan R-Line is equipped with 19-inch alloy rims and body cladding on the wheel arches, maintaining the sporty aesthetic. The rear tail lights also get a smoked connected LED lightbar and a roof spoiler. Volkswagen offers 6 colours to choose from and personalizes the SUV to one’s liking.

Engine & Performance

The Tiguan R-Line is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 204 HP and 320 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. The performance SUV can go from 0-100 Km/hr in a respectable 7.1 seconds. The all-wheel-drive system helps to carry the momentum to a top speed of 229 Km/hr.

Interior

The interior of the Tiguan R-Line combines luxury and performance well as it has an all-black colour scheme with blue contrast stitching. There is also the presence of sports seats. The Tiguan R-Line is equipped with a 10.3-inch driver display and a 12.3-inch infotainment system and which also controls the tri-zone climate control, placed permanently at the bottom of the screen.

The system offers wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality. The R-Line gets a 3-spoke steering wheel with ‘R’ badging.

Features

Additionally, the Tiguan R-Line features a panoramic sunroof, 30-colour ambient lighting, brushed stainless steel pedals, massaging front seats, wireless charging for two phones, and Level 2 ADAS. The Indian Spec Tiguan R-Line will also get Volkswagen’s Park Assist Plus, allowing self-parking capabilities.

Market Competition

The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line’s pricing slots it directly in the ballpark of entry-level luxury SUVs like BMW X1, Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA. However, the biggest competitor will be the new Skoda Kodiaq, however, the pricing hasn’t been announced as of now. In comparison to the Kodiaq, we expect the German SUV’s Czech sister to sell better due to its larger size and more practicality.

The new Tiguan’s on-road price crosses Rs. 60 Lakh in Mumbai. The Audi Q3 in comparison costs Rs. 54-66 Lakh, while the BMW X1 can be yours for Rs. 61-65 Lakh as well.

Outlook

The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line is a competent SUV with good power figures and acceleration times. The previous Tiguan came to India as a CKD (Complete Knocked Down) option and was cheaper. The Volkswagen badge has a good reputation for build quality and driving dynamics, but the question remains how it will do against proper luxury brands.
