Volkswagen Tiguan R Line debuts in India on 14th April as a fully imported SUV
Volkswagen is set to introduce the Tiguan R Line in India on 14th April, marking the arrival of its most premium SUV offering in the country. The R Line variant will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU) and is expected to carry a price tag of around Rs. 50 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Design and Exterior Updates
As the top-spec model in the Tiguan lineup, the R Line receives a sportier design treatment. This includes redesigned front and rear bumpers, a roof-mounted rear spoiler, and distinctive R Line-specific side panels. Adding to its premium appeal are full-width LED light strips at both the front and rear, along with larger 19-inch alloy wheels that enhance its stance.
The new-generation Tiguan is 30 mm longer than the outgoing model still sold in India, though its wheelbase remains unchanged.
Interior and Technology
Inside, the Tiguan R Line promises a blend of sportiness and luxury. It comes equipped with sports seats, an ambient lighting system offering 30 colour options, and a three-zone lighting arrangement. The dashboard adopts a modern and clean layout, featuring a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
A key highlight is the inclusion of Volkswagen’s latest MIB4 infotainment software, which supports over-the-air (OTA) updates for enhanced functionality.
Performance and Powertrain
The Tiguan R Line is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, producing 265 HP. It will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DSG) and Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.
In comparison, the existing Tiguan in India is powered by a 190 HP, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. While the international R Line variants offer mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and diesel powertrain options, these are unlikely to be part of the India-spec model.
Price and Market Positioning
With a price expected around Rs. 50 lakhs, the Tiguan R Line will command a significant premium over the current Tiguan, which is priced at Rs. 38.17 lakhs (ex-showroom, India). This positions it as Volkswagen’s most expensive SUV in the country, catering to buyers looking for a high-performance, feature-packed premium SUV.
