Long wheelbase version of the Tiguan coming to India to replace the current gen Tiguan.
With the imminent arrival of the T-Roc in India, though in small numbers, Volkswagen is also planning to get the Tiguan LWB. The arrival of these SUVs hints towards the fact that the company is trying to stir up a place in the SUV segment in India.
The second generation of the Volkswagen Tiguan was introduced worldwide in 2016 as a short wheelbase and long wheelbase (LWB) model. Every country got either of the models, so the company kept the Tiguan name as standard. But in the markets in which both the models of the Tiguan were launched, the LWB version got named as the Tiguan Allspace. The current Tiguan was launched in India in 2017 and it comes with 4Motion. However, due to its premium pricing, sales haven’t been very high.
There is a dispute at the Volkswagen headquarters in Germany as to whether bring us the LWB model of the Tiguan with all the features and specs of the outgoing model with the extra row of seats or to drop the 4Motion and only launch the front wheel drive variant. If the company decides to go with the first option, naturally the price of the Tiguan will be increased, but if they launch the 2WD version, then the prices could remain the same. The 2WD version would triumph in the market demand point of view.
The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace will be assembled in India at the company’s Aurangabad facility. The company has not given a fixed timeline as to when the car will be coming to India or what configuration will it feature.
