The VW Tiguan Allspace will be bigger than its compact SUV sibling the Tiguan.
As the SUV segment is rising to new epitomes every passing year, the manufacturers that have been missing the opportunity to grab the piece of the sales pie are starting to enter the segment with the launch of flashy new models. One such brand is Volkswagen.
Although Volkswagen already has the Tiguan for sale in the country, the price tag for the base variant is a bit on the immoderately higher side for a 5-seater SUV. But for the remedy to this muddle, Volkswagen is bringing the bigger 7-seat SUV, the Tiguan Allspace to India next year.
Dimensionally the Tiguan Allspace will be bigger than its compact SUV sibling the Tiguan. The 7-seat configuration will be standard for the Tiguan Allspace. Volkswagen is bringing this SUV to the Indian subcontinent to rival the likes of the segment leader Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Honda CR-V as well as the Mahindra Alturas G4.
Sadly no diesel engine option will be available for the SUV, but it will be powered by a 2-litre TSI petrol engine, although the figures for the power output are unknown, the engine will be mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Additionally, the Allspace will ditch the 4WD that currently the Tiguan offers and will only have the 2WD layout.
Currently the Tiguan 5-seater is priced at Rs. 28.05 lakhs for the base Comfortline variant and racks up to Rs. 31.44 lakhs for the Highline variant (all prices, ex-showroom). The price of the Tiguan Allspace can be expected to be a bit higher than these. Although the lack of an AWD system can reduce the price bump and help it to be very competitively priced. It won’t be too surprising if the car is priced under Rs. 30 lakhs.
