Volkswagen has revealed that it will name its new coupe SUV the Taigo and has released design sketches of the upcoming model as well.
The Volkswagen Taigo is based on the Nivus sold in Brazil and takes after its attractive styling to a tee as can be seen in the design sketches.
This sporty-looking crossover will suit people who want a car with elevated seating position and a coupe body style.
To come with LED headlights as standard, the car, says Volkswagen, will sport a modern operating concept, a fully digital cockpit, latest connectivity systems and a multitude of assist systems.
Volkswagen sells the Nivus with LED headlights with DRLs, LED fog lights, LED tail lamps (connected by a black strip) and 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 205/55-section rubber.
Measuring 4266 mm long, the crossover has a 2566 mm wheelbase. This translates into decent space for 5 adults inside, while the boot space is 415 litres.
Features such as a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, 6.5-inch touchscreen, keyless entry and go, among several others are offered with the car that has a multifunction leather steering wheel with shift paddles and synthetic leather seats.
In Brazil, the Nivus is sold with a 1.0-litre petrol engine that makes 116 HP and 200 Nm. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Plenty of safety features including 6 airbags, ESC, ASR, Adaptive speed and distance control with AEB and ACC, Park Pilot and Hill Hold Control, are on offer as well. Expect most, if not all of these features to be offered in the Taigo.
Set to be unveiled this summer and subsequently launched in Europe at the end of the year, the Volkswagen Taigo will be manufactured in Pamplona, Spain.
