Volkswagen has all of a sudden become ambitious. The German automaker not only wants to become the biggest car maker in the world by 2018 but also one of the leading car manufacturers in India. Thus the company plans to launch a small car which would be smaller than the Polo and positioned below it. This small car would have higher local content than the Polo and would debut in 2012 priced at Rs. 3 lakhs for the base variant. The company has extensively started sourcing parts locally to increase its cost benefit and has changed its accounting period to April-March from January-December (the latter being followed by Volkswagen globally).
