Volkswagen Opens Its 100th Plant In Mexico

World’s largest car manufacturer Volkswagen Group recently inaugurated their 100th plant in Mexico. This big day for the German group was witnessed on the 15th of January in the city of Silao in Mexico. The inauguration event was attended by important political people including the President of Mexico and the Governor of the state of Guanajuato. Martin Winterkorn, CEO of Volkswagen AG or the top most influential person in the Auto industry, as he is popularly known was also present at the event.

This event marks Volkswagen’s powerful international production network which would also be generating newer jobs for a lot more people. The historic 100th plant in Silao will be concentrated on the making of engines which will then be supplied to American vehicle plants in Puebla, Chattanooga and Mexico. An annual production of 3,30,000 engines is being set as target as part of medium term planning. A major part of the production capacity will be the petrol TSI engines and also the powerful 1.8-litre, 247 HP TSI featured in the Passat Performance Concept.

Volkswagen invested $550 million on the Silao engine plant and was built using Volkswagen’s ‘Think Blue Factory’ program ensuring that the method employed in manufacturing will comply with the latest energy efficiency standards while the factory itself would be on the greener side with energy-efficient and natural lighting systems. The German Company has ambitious plans for North American market where it will be investing $5 billion in the next three years.
