Volkswagen has launched the Polo SR in the Indian market, which comes equipped with a long list of features. The Polo SR is offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine only and there is no diesel Polo SR being offered. Petrol powered cars have seen reduced demand due to increase in petrol fuel prices and thus the Polo SR edition will attract more buyers to the petrol Polo, which doesn’t sell as much as the diesel Polo. Volkswagen has priced the Polo SR at Rs. 6.27 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and sales have started.
The Volkswagen Polo SR edition gets front, side and rear under skirtings, rear spoiler, chrome trunk and exhaust finishing, chrome strip on front grille and SR badging as additional fittings. The SR edition is based on the Highline variant and thus the Polo SR gets front airbags, ABS, climate control, electrically adjustable ORVMs, multi-information display, 2-dic RCD320 audio system with AUX, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, adjustable steering wheel and driver’s seat (height), rear defogger, rear wiper, rear parking sensors, 15-inch alloy wheels, front and rear fog lights.
The Volkswagen Polo SR is positioned as a sporty hatchback and comes complete with an aero-sports package and spoiler kits. The 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine produces 75 BHP of power at 5400 RPM and 110 Nm of torque at 3750 RPM. It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. If Volkswagen really wants to offer a sporty hatchback, the company should have offered the Polo SR with a 1.6-litre petrol engine instead, which pumps out 105 BHP of power. Volkswagen will be bringing out a 1.2-litre TSI engined Polo in the next couple of months.
