The Volkswagen ID5 is a ‘stylish’ alternative to the regular ID.4
Volkswagen has revealed the ID.5 electric SUV which is essentially the coupe version of the ID.4 and the sister model to the Skoda Enyaq Coupe iV.
Visually, the Volkswagen ID5 looks very similar to the ID.4 but with a sloping roofline, which, to some makes it look a bit more stylish, apparently. But, there are subtle differences between the 2 models and there is even a GTX variant to boot.
Step inside and the cabin is identical to the ID.4. The digital screens and minimalist design stay put. Also, Volkswagen claims that the coupe electric SUV has 549 litres of boot space.
Features such as welcome animations, ID.Light (full-width LED light on the dashboard), augmented reality heads-up display, voice control (Hello ID), over-the-air updates and advanced driver-assistance systems are all offered with the ID.5.
All ID.5 models come packed with a 77 kWh battery. The rear-motor Pro variant has a 128 kW (174 PS) motor delivering 310 Nm of torque, whereas the Pro Performance with the same layout has a 150 kW (204 PS) motor delivering the same 310 torques.
As for acceleration times, the Pro does the 0-100 km/hr run in 10.4 seconds, while the Pro Performance does the same 2 seconds quicker. But top speed is limited to 160 km/hr for both that also share the 520 km (claimed) range.
On the other hand, the top-spec dual motor Volkswagen ID5 GTX that has all-wheel drive features a total output of 220 kW (299 PS). It can do the 0-100 km/hr run in 6.3 seconds, hit a top speed of 180 km/hr and travel 480 km between charges.
The electric vehicle (EV) supports AC charging up to 11 kW and DC charging up to 135 kW. Use the latter option, and in about 30 minutes, the ID.5 will have up to 390 km range, the German firm claims.
To be initially sold in Europe from early next year, the EV will cost more than the ID.4. Volkswagen has yet to officially reveal the prices though.
