Volkswagen ID Every1 Concept Revealed, Their Most Affordable Electric Car Yet

Volkswagen ID Every1 concept previews compact, affordable EV for Europe

Volkswagen has pulled the covers off its latest electric vehicle concept – the ID Every1 – which is set to become the brand’s most budget-friendly EV when it arrives in 2027. Designed primarily for the European market, Volkswagen describes the ID Every1 as a vehicle created in Europe, for Europe, with the goal of making electric mobility more accessible to a wider audience.

Designed as an Affordable Urban EV

The ID Every1 is positioned as the spiritual successor to the compact Volkswagen Up and will serve as the entry-level model in the brand’s expanding ID electric vehicle lineup. With its compact dimensions and urban-friendly proportions, the model aims to balance affordability with practicality, catering to European buyers seeking a cost-effective electric option.

Exterior Styling

The concept’s design stays close to what Volkswagen envisions for the eventual production model, with the brand hinting that the final version won’t deviate too far from this initial design study. Its short length and compact footprint are reminiscent of the Up, while the overall styling draws inspiration from both classic and contemporary Volkswagen models.

At the front, the car sports large, rounded LED headlamps connected by a slim black panel, creating a friendly, approachable face. Vertical LED daytime running lights flank the edges of the bumper, adding a modern touch. The windscreen’s wraparound appearance, created by blacked-out A-pillars, helps give the vehicle a more cohesive and streamlined look.

Along the sides, the bodywork maintains a clean and simple profile, with subtle sculpting around the wheel arches. Volkswagen says this deliberately restrained approach is aimed at creating a “timeless” and “classless” design. The concept rides on 19-inch wheels, and the flush door handles contribute to the smooth, minimalist aesthetic. A subtle nod to the first-generation Golf can be seen in the shape of the C-pillar.

At the rear, the design language mirrors the front, with similarly shaped tail lamps and a clean, simple bumper. A centrally mounted third brake light is integrated into the roof spoiler.

In terms of size, the ID Every1 measures 3,880mm in length — making it slightly shorter than Volkswagen’s previously shown ID 2all concept, which measures 4050 mm. While both models share design similarities up to the front pillars, the ID Every1 features a shorter wheelbase and a more compact battery setup.

Interior Focuses on Simplicity and Function

The cabin of the ID Every1 concept adopts the minimalist design language commonly seen in modern electric vehicles. A large floating infotainment touchscreen sits at the centre of the dashboard, accompanied by a row of physical controls for essential functions like climate settings and audio volume — a welcome feature for drivers who prefer tactile controls over touchscreen-only interfaces.

The steering wheel features a squared-off two-spoke design, and the air vents carry design cues inspired by the car’s headlights. The centre console is mounted on rails, allowing it to be repositioned between the front and rear passenger areas depending on seating needs.

Volkswagen has opted for a four-seat layout in the ID Every1, with a focus on maximising space within the compact footprint. Between the front seats, there’s a removable Bluetooth speaker, and for added flexibility, the front passenger seat comes with a panel that can hold different accessories, such as a tablet mount or storage shelf.

New Software Platform Co-Developed with Rivian

One of the notable advancements in the ID Every1 is the debut of a new software architecture developed in collaboration with American EV start-up Rivian. This software system is designed to be highly adaptable, allowing it to be tailored for both entry-level vehicles like the ID Every1, as well as for more advanced and premium models.

The system also supports over-the-air updates, meaning owners will have the option to unlock additional features after purchase — a growing trend in the automotive industry.

Powertrain and Performance

The production version of the ID Every1 will be based on a modified version of Volkswagen’s MEB Entry platform, which is tailored for smaller, front-wheel-drive electric vehicles. Although detailed technical specifications are still under wraps, Volkswagen has confirmed that the vehicle will use a newly developed electric motor producing 95 HP. This setup will give the car a top speed of around 130 km/hr.

While Volkswagen hasn’t disclosed the exact battery capacity or chemistry, the company claims the ID Every1 will deliver a minimum range of 250 km on a full charge — aligning it with the needs of urban and suburban commuters.

Launch Timeline and Future Plans

Volkswagen has confirmed that the ID Every1 will launch in European markets in 2027. It will be part of a broader lineup of small, urban-focused electric vehicles from the brand. Following the ID Every1, Volkswagen is expected to reveal the ID 2 X — a compact electric crossover — later this year, likely at the Munich Motor Show in September.

With its blend of affordability, compact design, and modern technology, the ID Every1 will play a key role in Volkswagen’s broader strategy to make electric vehicles more accessible to European customers.
