2024 Volkswagen Golf interior showcased, gets Audi vibes on the dashboard
2024 Volkswagen Golf interior revealed officially ahead of its full debut later this month. This is the Golf MK8.5, which is a facelifted version of the 8th generation model. The German carmaker will make the next generation (MK9) a pure electric model. This is the last model of the ICE range!
The facelifted model gets some substantial changes inside, it comes with a larger 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system (much bigger than the outgoing 10-inch unit). Another big change here is the new steering wheel with physical buttons that replaces the touch-sensitive buttons that were cumbersome to use.
The new infotainment system integrates the ChatGPT AI tech. Volkswagen will be the first volume manufacturer to offer Chat GPT as a standard feature from the second quarter of 2024 in many production vehicles.
Enabled by Cerence Chat Pro, the integration of ChatGPT into the backend of the Volkswagen voice assistant offers a multitude of new capabilities according to the German carmaker. They say it will go far beyond the previous voice control. For example, the IDA voice assistant can be used to control the infotainment, navigation and air conditioning, or to answer general knowledge questions.
In the future, AI will provide additional information in response to questions that go beyond this as part of its continuously expanding capabilities. The voice assistant is activated by saying “Hello IDA” or pressing the button on the steering wheel. IDA automatically prioritises whether a vehicle function should be executed, a destination searched or the temperature adjusted. If the request cannot be answered by the Volkswagen system, it is forwarded anonymously to AI and the familiar Volkswagen voice responds.
