Volkswagen Polo, Vento Won’t Get DSG Anymore

Volkswagen aims to extend its petrol-only variants at a more affordable price.

The 6-speed AT equipped variant will be around Rs. 40,000/- to Rs. 50,000/- cheaper than the DSG trim

Volkswagen India has announced that the company’s 7-speed DSG gearbox in the Polo and Vento is going to be discontinued. The twin-clutch automatic transmission was mated to the 1.5-litre TDI diesel and 1.2-litre TSI petrol engines. While there is no diesel option for the Polo and Vento, the 1.2-litre TSI has been replaced by a new-generation 1.0-litre TSI which was showcased at the ongoing Auto Expo in Delhi. What is good is that this engine develops 10 PS more than the 4-cylinder, 1.2-litre TSI apart from offering a higher torque at 200 Nm.

On top of that, the 1.0-litre TSI will be offered with a 6-speed manual and a conventional 6-speed torque converter automatic. Since diesel is waved-off by Volkswagen, the brand aims to extend its petrol-only variants at a more affordable price. As per the company, the 6-speed AT equipped variant will be around Rs. 40,000/- to Rs. 50,000/- cheaper than the DS6 variant.

While the 1.0-litre TSI and 6-speed AT duo will be utilised for the base variant of the Tiguan, the top-end variant will retain the 1.5-litre TSI engine with the 7-speed DSG gearbox. It is likely that the next-generation Vento will also get the 1.5-litre TSI engine. Even the hot-hatch Polo GT TSI could get the old-fashioned manual gearbox with the 1.0-litre TSI producing 110 PS.
