Volkswagen is betting big on the CrossBlue Concept, as we had earlier seen the CrossBlue 7-seat SUV concept at the Detroit Auto Show in the beginning of this year. This time at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show, the German automaker has come up on stage with the CrossBlue Coupe Concept. The Coupe version of the CrossBlue SUV looks sleeker than its elder sibling with a low slung stance to justify its Coupe title. The CrossBlue Coupe measures 4.89-metres in length, 2.01-meters in width and 1.68-meters in height, which means it is longer and wider than the Volkswagen Touareg.
The Crossblue Coupe Concept is based on the Volkswagen MQB platform and is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged direct injection V6 petrol engine paired with 9.9 kWh lithium ion battery pack that produces a combined power output of 415 BHP and a peak torque of 700 Nm, mated to a 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The electric motors are mounted on the front and rear axles to keep a proper balance. The hybrid technology helps the CrossBlue Coupe to deliver an impressive fuel efficiency of 33.3 km/l and a range of around 1200 kms with the 80-litre fuel tank.
The Crossblue Coupe Concept is capable of doing the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 5.9 seconds claiming a top speed of 235 km/hr. The hybrid technology equipped vehicle has a range of up to 33 kms on pure electric power. The vehicle has various driving modes including coasting, battery regeneration, boosting, off-roading and TSI only. Coming to the interiors, the CrossBlue Coupe Concept features a five-seater layout with a neatly designed cabin equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch cockpit display, which is the digital instrument cluster. No signs of when this model will hit production.
