The made in India Ford Figo, which is on sale in the Latin American market, mainly Mexico, has done really well in its Latin NCAP testing. The result is quite noteworthy for the car. The vehicle is manufactured at the brand’s plant in Sanand, Gujarat along with its Indian counterpart, i.e. the Aspire.

The test report discloses reasonable protection for the front occupants, except the driver’s chest, as seen in both the front and side-impact tests. Front occupants’ knees get peripheral protection as the dashboard may be intrusive. Footwell area along with feet protection was rated adequate. Moreover, the side-impact test shows positive results for the head, abdomen and pelvis protection. However, the side pole impact test didn’t take place because the vehicle doesn’t come with side head protection as standard.

The tests also included child dummies of 18 months old and 3-years old infants. On that mark too it recorded adequate safety levels. The ‘unstable’ rating for the bodyshell integrity is something to worry about.

The kerb weight of the Mexican variant is 1349 kgs, whereas the Indian Figo Aspire stands at 1016 kgs. The South American model comes with 4 airbags, ABS, ESC, ISOFIX anchors, front seatbelt pretensioners and reminders as standard. On the other hand, the Indian variant comes with dual airbags, ABS, EBD and a high-speed alert system as standard. Only the top-trim Titanium+ comes with 6 airbags.

Another notable difference is in the length of the 2 variants. The South American model at 4249 mm is longer than the sub 4-metre Indian version even though both have the same wheelbase.
