For the third time this year, motor vehicle document validity has been extended by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to aid the movement of citizenry, transporters, among others.
The latest advisory came on 24th August 2020, while the previous two extensions were announced on 30th March and 9th June this year due to the COVID-19 induced lockdowns which deemed such renewal services non-vital.
According to the ministry, fitness, permit (all types), driving license, registration, or any other document(s) concerned will be valid till the end of the year.
“It is advised that the validity of all of the above referred documents whose extension of validity could not or not likely to be granted due to lockdown and which had expired since 1st February 2020 or would expire by 31st December 2020, the same may be treated to be valid till 31st December 2020,” the ministry’s statement read.
Previously, the documents were made valid till 30th September, but since the situation remains grim and unfavourable to carry out document renewal activities, the Road Transport Ministry has decided to extend motor vehicle document validity period.
Enforcement authorities have been advised to treat such documents valid till 31st December 2020 in order to help out citizens in availing of transport-related services.
Further, all States and Union Territories have been requested to implement the advisory in letter and spirit so that citizens, transporters and other stakeholders may not get harassed and face difficulties during such testing times.
