Suzuki has confirmed that their Gixxer model will receive a major update in 2019.
The Suzuki Gixxer has always been a fun to ride motorcycle. Its agility and ridability match the best in the segment. But the model that is currently on sale has reached its design lifetime. To overcome this, Suzuki will launch an updated Gixxer in 2019.
The updated Suzuki Gixxer is likely to get a new LED-headlight, split-seats, a new TFT-display instrument cluster and an overall sharper styling. Performance of the current bike is already good so the engine will mostly be carried over as it is. However, Suzuki might make some changes to get more juice from the powerplant and improve its refinement. The frame too will be carried over but might be stiffened to minimize flexing. Ride quality will likely be improved as the current bike is more on the stiffer side.
More than three years after it was first launched in India, the Suzuki Gixxer continues to enjoy a considerable amount of market share. This is thanks to its affordable price, good performance and great riding dynamics. It is currently powered by a 154.9cc powertrain that produces 14.59 HP at 8000 RPM. Suzuki has even given the motorcycle an ABS option recently.
Only recently we had brought to you that Suzuki is even planning to launch a 250cc version of their Gixxer model. The bike will likely produce around 25 HP and will be bulkier than its 150cc sibling. This motorcycle will compete with the Yamaha FZ25 and Honda CBR250R.
Currently, two models of the Suzuki Gixxer are on sale India. One is the street-fighter version, which competes with the TVS Apache 160 while the other is the faired model called the Gixxer SF. While the former sells at Rs. 87,250/- for the ABS model, the latter sells at Rs. 90,037/- (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
